My 85 f250 6.9 is having problems starting in the cold all of a sudden? The glow plugs are wired to a switch I left it on by accident last week. Could that have messed them up ? My truck has never had this problem in colder weather and I don't like using starting fluid
Yes leaving that switch on probably burnt them out. How long did you leave them on? Check sticky at top of forum page on how to properly test them. There pretty much a big resistor and if left on they burn up
I would tend to think that the fusible links would blow before the glow plugs burnt up, my glow plugs did not go out after the relay controller stuck open or the fusible links did not blow, the 2 10 gauge wires melted the top of the harness connector plug, at least they were on top so I can still use the plug connector. Sorry I can not answer your question but maybe my post will give you a few ideas. Let me add one more thing, I installed a new relay controller and also put in a MOMINTARY SWITCH, a toggle switch for my glow plugs that you flip to make a closed circuit and release it and its a open(no voltage)
Have you pulled them yet?? Be careful when you do, if you havnt. I burned mine up on a switch like that a few years ago...had to pull the drivers side head off to fish out a glow plug that had broke off.
