I read in another post that an Escape had a cabin air filter. I have an '02 just wondering where this is? Also, in that same post another person stated that Escapes do not have these. That is what I thought as well. Anyone know the location?
There is a spot to install one. Do a search on here and you will find very complete directions on how to do it. I did it and I have 10 thumbs.
Very simple to do. Which reminds me I should check it.
I bought mine at a local Autozone Bosch 3710, for 26.99. It has the instructions in the box, I even found it from the manufacturer online. All the filters you can buy are made by MicronAir. Just go to http://micronair.us/
and you can download instructions PDF. DoctorCAD right about those plastic screws,
I'd put a large towel or accross the engine compartment near that area so if any of the
screws or plastic caps fall they'll fall into the towel not the engine compartment. but
it's really a easy project to do, also use a damp rag to wipe out the grate where the filter goes, and maybe spray a touch of lysol in there and let dry. Very quick and satisflying project.

I picked up a Fram CA 4303 for 4.67 at the local wally-mart. I read in the previous post that this filter will fit. I am going to try the project tomorrow, I will let you all know how it turns out. I think for the price of the Bosch filter I would skip it if that was the only filter that would fit. The Bosch option doesn't seem worth it for that much money unless you have bad allergies.
Well that's cool that the Fram 4303 would work as a cabin air filter, happen to check one out at a local Pep Boys and it sure looks like it would work just fine, and for a lot less. I actually have allergies, but allergy shots keep it in check, so I will probably switch to the Fram when it's time to change the filter. So I guess if you wanted a really good engine air filter the Bosch would keep your engine super clean, especially if it suffers from allergies? Nahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....

Just installed the fram today. It fits like a glove. If anyone tries this just be careful not to lose the D!@# plastic screw covers that pop off. The entire job took less than 10 minutes, we'll see how it works out. Scotts the only reason I suggested the Fram is I have used Fram for years and never had a problem with them and also the price factor. I am sure Bosch makes a fine filter but anytime I can save a few bucks and get a quality product I go for it. For a 10 minute job if it saves someone allergies I think it will be well worth the 5 buck filter. If anyone needs info on how to do this, there is an excellent post that explains the procedure. Just hit the search for cabin air filter. Happy Escaping!!!!!
Hey Ford43 glad you posted your results, I'll be using the Fram from this point on, until
I researched this forum I never knew any other filter would fit, that's what makes
this forum a great site to use. I could have bought 5 Frams for the price of one Bosch
that's a big savings! Thanks for the update.

Just wondering though, is the Bosch just a paper filter like the Fram? Many dedicated cabin air filters also use charcoal as a filtering agent along with the paper. My wife's Nissan Altima has one like that and I think the filter cost around $30 or so, maybe more. The charcoal just helps the clean the air better than just paper, but is not necessary..
The carbon won't clean the air any better, it absorbs odors. Even the Ford OEM cabin air filter for the Escape isn't impregnated with carbon. Ford could definitely learn something from Nissan on this issue. Hopefully Ford can turn it around like Nissan did as well, a tremendous success story for that automotive manufacturer.
