Greetings,
While performing a search for the battery filter, I came across this post on another forum and offer it up.
This is from stevewa on Carspace Automotive Forums
"All Escapes (including hybrid) have a place to put a cabin air filter. None of them come with one installed.
You can buy the filter from your dealer or use an aftermarket one. I bought the Wix equivalent at the local parts store for about $15. The install is a little involved but quick to do. Cycle the wipers and shut off the ignition with them in the upright position, then you have to remove the 4 screws (they're covered with round plastic covers that pop off with a small screwdriver...don't let them fly off or you'll never find them..best to remove these with the hood down!) along the bottom of the windscreen on the passenger side, pop out the plastic "rivets" along the front edge of the same side's cowling cover then lift the section of cowling up and out of the way. Under that is another cover (keeps the filter in place and dry) which comes off revealing the filter box. Put the filter in there, put everything back together and you're good to go."
I added them to both of my Escapes and noticed a slight decrease in dust and pollen in the car at first. I did notice a huge decrease in airflow through the vents now. I drive with the windows open more often than not so I'll probably take them out one of these days.
I have a 2007 escape that does not have the cabin filter installed. Went down to Napa and they couldnt find any filter listed for it. They did find one listed for a 2007 hybrid. Anyone know if they are the same? Thanks

Don't know for sure that it is the same but it probably is. Most of the car body is the same between the hybrid and the gas only versions.
If I remember right, the cabinair filter for the '07 hybrid is an oddball shape - square at one end and triangular at the other so five sides total. Take a look at the filter housing in your car and see if it is that shape. Or, make a template and take it to the NAPA and see how your template matches the one they have.
just took my Escape in for a 30K service and they changed the cabin air filter. Never knew it had one. Most cars I owned in the past wasn't this fancy.

More than likely they didn't change the filter but installed one. None of mine have ever come with one from the factory.
Depending on how much you drive with the windows open, you may notice less pollen and dust on the dash. But, you may also notice less airflow in vent mode too.
D---. Why does everything have to be so complicated. I ordered a filter for my 2007 from Schucks yesterday. Its a rectangle, the same as in the linked pictures 2fords2 provided.(thanks!) When I went to install it I found that my inlet is not rectangular. After some googling I found an old discussion that explains it. Theres a link to a picture which shows what my inlet looks like in this thread:
They are just a complete waste of money and time, having replaced several hundred in my career as a professional wrench, they are worthless. I took the one out that somebody had put in my escape. They simply decrease airflow through the system, all older vehicles never had them or had any problems, interesting...
About two or 3 months after we brought home our used, off lease 03, it began to have the odor of death in the HVAC. I found out it had a cabin filter & popped the covers off to dig it out. It was full of oak leaves, acorns, dryer lint & a bunch of dead baby mice. All recently deceased in a vehicle driven daily. Glad it was there. Replaced it since then because this is the south and dust, pollen, etc can be a problem year round, but particularly in the summer. As far as I'm concerned its useful.
