I recently found a very small leak in my rear tank, so I ordered a replacement along with new straps. However, I suspect the leak was due to the insulation/padding being worn out, and the new parts didn't come with any insulation. Where might I find some, or is there a good substitute?
I think the leaks around the straps are caused from moisture sitting in the crevices created by the straps. I have siliconed strips of rubber to straps that I have replaced in the past. I would stay away from anything that holds moisture. Some people have use inner tube rubber. I have used a pvc material used to line household shower stalls with to keep them from leaking.
I think rubber would hold the moisture in. I just change my front tank pump ... and had the tank out, have removed tank from 73 Mach also ... I think the stuff the factory uses is closer in nature to a heavy roofing felt ... more than the 30lb stuff at the Depot ... but some of that folded over into 2 or 3 layers should be about right, and it will allow water to dry instead of pool up like what whould happen in rubber.
