I'm trying to find some OEM or equivalent insulator felt to put on my lower fuel tank straps. Also, whatever insulator material goes on the upper straps. Can anyone direct me to a site or idea so that I can mount my tank properly? I'm trying to do things right cuz I just got my frame back from being sandblasted and I'm ready to start the rebuild. As always, I appreciate the help!
I just use strips of rubber i cut from an inner tube.
I've considered that as an option but thought I'd see if i could find something more original than that. Like I said, I'm trying to do it right as much as possible. Thanks for the input. Anyone else?
Thanks Montana_Highboy. Wow! They are proud of their 2 inch rubber insulator strap! Inner tube is looking more and more attractive. Guess that's what I get for trying to do things "right".
Go to an autoparts store and look at various widths of individual leaf spring liners (which also have raised edges). Maybe one from a 1960/65 Falcon or '65/68 Mustang will be about right.
You cannot get any type of 'service part replacement' fuel tank strap insulation from Ford, because it only came on new vehicles. The parts catalog sez: Improvise.
When I put my new tank in, I used peices I cut from a 2" wide ratchet strap I had laying around that the ratchet got messed up on. I used some trim adhesive to hold it in place while I put the tank in. Got about 1000 miles on it since I did it and it works great!!!!!! Hell, you can buy a brand new ratchet strap for around $10 anymore so its a cheap alternative.
