Installing new fuel tank on 53 f100

I am installing a new fuel tank on my 53 f100. I bought new straps and new strap insulation strips. They seem to be extra long. Do I cut them to just fit the inside of the straps?

I just trimmed the extra insulation rubber. I hope the straps aren't too long you can't really shorten those. I think the new ones where the same length as the originals....I ended up reusing my old straps.

jackus, Welcome to FTE! I just took a quick look at your gallery. You have a beauty of a truck. Start a new thread and tell us about it.

Are the straps the same size front to back or are they different? I cannot get the one on the rear of the tank to come down around the tank to the running board bracket.

The rear strap is longer than the front.

Wish they would have denoted that in the parts book at LMC. Thanks EffieTrucker. I guess I have to take it all a part again.

Pappy53,
Great looking truck! Sorry about the strap issues but that's how it goes with these ole Effie's.
Where are you in the "Show Me" state?

Thanks for the compliment on the truck. I live in Fort Worth, TX.
Don't remember having any difficulty with them. I put the tank on with the cab off the frame Although that was some time ago some times I forget.

Bjmayberry2 I live in Independence, MO. Finally got the tank installed. It still was not easy after switching the straps. They didn't fit very well. The bolt that came with them that bolts to the running board bracket were not long enough.

Seems like everybody lives in the middle or on the other side of the State. Glad you figured the straps out.

Well you made it work. That’s what counts. Philippains 4:13. Everything I’ve done to mine was and is the same way still. I have a sister that lives in Tahlequah, OK. It’s not that far up to KC. Maybe someday I’ll be in your area and we can have some coffee and talk. Keep up the good work
