tail lights quit working, need help

ok guys truck in question is my 86 f150. the tail lights do not come on with the marker lights or headlights, my brakelights work, turn signals work, and emergancy flashers work. i put two new bulbs in and they didnt turn on.

i pulled the headlight switch out of my 82 and tried it in there with no success.

is there a fuseable link somewhere that could of blown? i read through the diagrams in my hanes manual, they showed plenty of links that could of blown but mention nothing about were to find them on the truck. can anyone point me in the right direction i have no idea where to look, its freezing outside otherwise id get under there for a while and look around.

i used a piece of wire to jump the headlight switch, i found a red wire that powerd the marker lights, if all else fails i was thinking about tapping into this wire and running a new wire to the tail lights.

what do you guys think, any ideas?

I believe the taillights are fused. might check that. Other than that is there a trailer plug tied into the system? Check there. Go back to where the plugs are at the back of the truck and check and make sure they are OK. Eyeball down the frame and see if you may have a broken wire, that's not likely unless someone has mickey moused the wiring at some point.

Not too sure about your year but earlier years, 84, 85, these symptoms can be attributed to the blinker switch. Try fooling with the blinker switch positioning, if the brake lights sometimes come on then you need to replace the switch.

The one that turns on the left or right blinker. On the steering column. Sounds a little counterintuitive but that switch does decide what type of lights turn on in certain circumstances.

I went through the marker light problem with my 86 Bronco. Between the manual and actually having to run new wires (I believe it was originally a brown wire), all the marker lights are on one circuit. The fronts are split off of one wire and the backs markers are split off one wire. (Both directly out of the headlight switch)
