I am having a problem with my tail lights. Two weeks ago, all my lights worked. Now, when I turn on the headlights or parking lights, the tail lights will not work, the brake lights do not work and the turn signal will come on and not blink. I can not think of anything I have done that would have affected the lights. I took the radio and speaker out and have replaced a couple of printed circuit board bulbs but that is it.
When the lights are off, the brake light and turn signal lights work fine.
I have changed the headlight switch but the same thing happens with both switches.
All the other lights work fine, headlights, marker lights, everything.
There is a great tech article (Articles link at top of page) about testing and repairing rear lights on your pickup. Read through it. I would guess a bad ground to bad bulb socket.
On my '74 (having the same problems), not only did I clean up the grounding areas and use fresh connectors, but I reinforced the existing grounds by running an extra ground strap (braid) from the tail lights down to the frame.
