Leaking fuel drain?

Is it just me, or has there been a rash of leaking filter drain valves lately?
I just looked under mine, and yep, a little fuel is leaking out the drain tube.
I HATE LEAKS!!!
So is it just coincidence, or is this possibly related to the introduction of ULSD?
And if it is, what about our injector o-rings?

According THIS to link, the ULSD fuel will not cause a fuel leak. I have not used any of this stuff, to my knowledge. I voted that mine has never leaked, because i don't have one anymore.

From the article:
"The evidence
to date suggests the problem is linked to
a change in the aromatics content of the
S15 ultra low sulfur diesel fuel, to seal
material and age of the material."

"Two explanations have been offered to
explain the sudden occurrence of seal
failures:
• Many of the new S15 fuels are
expected to contain lower levels of
aromatics. The change from a higher
to a lower aromatics fuel can cause
seals to shrink. Aged seals, which do
not have the elasticity to adapt to this
change, appear to fail sooner.
• Some of the new S15 fuels are
expected to be more susceptible to
oxidation. The resulting oxidation
products (peroxides) could attack the
seal material and cause it to
prematurely age."

"To date we have not seen evidence of
peroxide formation, therefore, we
believe that most cases are related
directly to the reduction in the aromatics
content of the fuel. This reduction is a
result of increased hydrotreating to
reduce fuel’s sulfur level to 15 ppm."

Seems to me that chevron is indicating here that the new fuel may be responsible for leaks. Am I reading this wrong?

Leaked and fixed. Day I was in for that, 4 other trucks were there for the same thing. Tech told me he used to never see that. He was starting to see 10 a week. This is right when ULSD was hitting the pumps. So yeah, I think theres a connection.

You can get Viton replacement o-rings on e bay for $5, or a complete valve assembly at powerstrokeshopdotcom for about $35.

We've had all USLD here for about 3-4 months.

I like bacon, but in all fairness, I haven't driven my truck much in the past 4 months. But the reunion will be in two weeks!

There are still a couple small stations around here that sell the old stuff, but getting hard to find & not worth the drive.

Well, so far the poll seems to indicate at least a rash, and possibly an epidemic.

So what do the experts think? Are injector o-rings next?

Also, 150 views, only 19 votes, and nobody likes bacon. Is everyone being honest?

My drain valve has never leaked. The reason I have not voted to this point is because I think there may be something to it all and I will be coming up on a fillup soon. Don't rack up that much on my rig but almost afraid to get more now. Will be putting extra DK in just for good measure.

Those injector orings give me great concern. Fortunately they are far cheaper than injectors.

I just wonder how much of this is related to the age of our trucks as opposed to the new fuel. I know they failed before the new fuel from being on this forum. Perhaps they are reaching their acceptible lifespan. They did fail before. Maybe I'm in denial but I'm still good for now.
