Wow, this is a damn epidemic! It must be the ULSD, jeez I just love the EPA. Mine must have showed up so early because I have put nearly 15,000 miles on my truck over the summer and have been using some DK, in fact I feel like I have been using enough so maybe the DK is not going to save us from these types of problems.
Got mine fixed today. Living more or less on the road in my motor home in Florida for the winter I don't really have an address to send anything to. Could not find the correct o-rings at any local parts stores so let the stealership stick it to me for 50 bucks for the entire valve. Next, find a shop to install. Found a man that "does not work on diesels" and with a little begging, a diagram and telling him how easy it was to do with the proper tools he agreed and did it for 30 bucks, about a half an hour and out the door. No more leaks anyway!
Sounds like you got a heck of a deal with the labor. The $50. was not that bad for a Ford Dealer. Did you read above where the Dealership charged $296.00 for doing the job??
Yes I did, and I told the we don't work on diesels shop about our epidemic, and how much the stealership wanted for doing what took him about a half hour.
I have about the same amount of miles, 160,000 or so on '99. Changing the water pump this weekend and reading the hints on this web site. Take care. Are you ever in Texas, you said on the road? Dave
PTFE
Is the most versatile when it comes to resistance to environments such as tearing, abrasion, ozone, weather, water, steam, acids, alkalies, synthetic lubricants, animal/vegetable oils, anilines, hydrocarbons, detergents, salt water, hydraulic fluid, alcohol, refrigerants, and ketones.
I just ordered a 10 pack of PTFE's to replace my O-rings for some preventive maintenance.
Ok, I just replaced my o-rings. I got them on ebay. Viton brand. My Excursion has the California emission controls on it and it took me almost two hours to do the job. The wiring harnesses kept getting in the way and I could only turn the ratchet maybe a quarter turn. I just checked for leaks and I'm good to go.
Ok, newbie here. Can someone post up a picture of where this leak is? I am sure I have seen it but want to make sure.... Since I seem to remember smelling fuel a couple of times lately... hummmm????
doing my u-joints last night and noticed a drip from my tube..its a small drip now..its never leaked be for now..
a question for you guy's..every one seems to find the leek when the valley fills up or smells fuel...I didn't smell any fuel and my valley is bone dry..the drip is from the tube not the back of the valve...did I just get luck and noticed it be for it got worse or could it be something else??

Same here, I was under my pickup and noticed the drip from the drain tube, no fuel in the valley of no return.
