I like bacon. Seriously though, I have noticed a bunch of drain valve o-rings starting to leak, based on the posts I'm seeing here on FTE. I wondered if they're caused by the new fuel.
I had the same problem with a leaking fuel drain. On replacing the "O" rings, I saw the old ones were hard and didn't flex at all. The new ones fixed the problem.
hey guys a friend just had the fuel filter o ring problem. these are getting hard to find. he turned the o rings over and reinstalled them and there is no more leak. dont know how long this will last, but its worth a try until you can find some new ones.
Bacon is too salty for my taste unless it's in a BLT.
My filter bowl has never leaked.
Then again I haven't had to fill it up since last spring when I got back from the last vacation I took. I still have 65 gallons to go.
Mine leaked big time on me last week. I took it in to my local mechanic to order the part and fix it and he said he just had to replace one on his f550 tow truck the other day. I never thought it could be the fuel, but i have just run 2 tanks of ulsd right before this happend.
The reduced aromatics in ULSD can cause shrinkage in seals/Orings that have become acustomed to LSD Fuels. Now the Injector o-rings have to be a different construction than the drain valve o-rings or we would allready be seeing leaks there also.
BTW: I have taken to sniffing the degass botlle at weekly checks and Blackstone will confirm the oil in another 2K. Last sample there was no trace of fuel in oil and that was 2 months after ULSD started being weened into the supply here and about 2 weeks after the drain valve started leaking.
$4 set of orings at autozone for rated for fuel contact .... if i remember right you need two 1/4" ID 1/2" OD 1/8" thick PLEASE VERIFY WITH SOMEONE THAT HAS MORE KNOWLEDGE OF THIS
Replaced mine about a month ago ... the whole valley was floating in overheated fuel after a long haul ... kept smelling raw fuel .. thought i overfilled tank or something .. then i noticed the oily fuel smelling small puddle underneath. Seemd very dangerous not sure how combustible HOT fuel is
Same as bnlange ... my drain orings seemed to have a crusty yellow film on them .. had to really dig it out with a toothpick ... felt like i needed to added some sort fuel resistent goop to them but did not ..they haven't leaked since.
well, they tagged teamed me. they took all the o rings and put a kit togather with some other 35 cent gaskets and o rings and only put 1 o ring in for the fuel filter at 36 bucks. so you have to buy 2 kits to get 2 o rings. but........they will sell you the unit complete for 55 dollars. raise your voice and they will bring it down to 49. now i know why they are closing the factories. harvard is really turning out some smart execs over the last few years.
I work at a truck shop in Omaha. And we have changed about 20 drain valves since september. I talked to the Ford parts department and they said they have sold at least 200 valve since september. I think that is quite a few for one dealer. It has to be fuel related.
