Wally World

Three things I want to get off my chest about Wal-Mart. The first thing is a Wal-Mart/ eBay thing that really cracks me up. I've been looking for some things to get for my truck from companies like Mossy Oak. You know, seat covers, cd holders, orginizers and so forth. Well I went on eBay and these people want $10.00 a piece (+ shipping) for the mossy oak cd holder and $15.00 a piece (+ shipping) for the visor orginizer. I go into Wal-Mart and they are only $5 and some change. It cracked me up looking at eBay the other day because people were actually purchasing the darn things.

Also, they keep talking about how Christmas sales were up but Wal-Marts sales were down. I understand that since Wal-Mart is the largest retailer that they will compare the two numbers. The thing for me is that I know that quite a few people do Christmas shopping in Wal-Mart, as do I when they have the correct item. Wal-Mart though, to me, has a serious quality issue on their products. I'm not talking about a lot of their "brand name" products like Motorcraft oil, Wrangler jeans or Remington/ Mossy Oak hunters gear. I mean the products that are Wal-Mart branded, a good deal of it is junk. It's like my girlfriend and I went Christmas shopping tonight at J.C. Penny's and got deals that we probably would not have even found in Wal-Mart for much better quality clothing.

The thing that actually drives me crazy about Wal-Mart is how they have tried to remake their image in the mens department. I went in their not long ago, I was in a hurry, didn't have a lot of money and needed just a regular t-shirt. My choices were between a shirt I could buy a Spencers that said something like Hustlin' with a big dollar sign. There was the very lage selection of UNC basketball gear that has sat on the shelves for years. Now wouldn't it make sense to have Virginia Tech or UVA in Virginia?. Moving on, I could have also gone with the cheap version of the under armor material, but I'm a big guy. Then there was the massive selection of Enyce hip hop attire. Needless to say I didn't buy a shirt, just wore what I had on. I should have just gone to the Hunting department and got myself one of those camo t-shirts. I think it is the best selection they had going for them. I did find out that Wal-Mart does carry a line of inexpensive Wrangler shirts but they are not available at the Norfolk, VA location. If I had any advise for Wally World in this regards it would be to look at the Bass Pro Shops. They have some really nice mens clothing that is quality stuff at inexpensive prices.

The Ebay vs. Wally world thing is funny! I watch for the same thing even with auto parts....
People THINK they're getting a deal on stuff because it's online and they're too lazy to go out and shop for it!

I can easily see why xmas sales are down around here at WW, I went by 2 of them the other day thinking I could get some misc junk out of the way. Once I got past the guilt army stationed at the doors I saw that 1/2 the population of Illinois decided to come in and set a spell while some wise manager had only 8 of the 14 registers open......
Ever see cattle being led to slaughter???
Aside from quality YES selection stinks!! I usually go in to try and pick up some cheap jeans for work, problem is unless I shrink and start wearing 27/34 or 48/28 pants I'm usually SOL!

Oddly ours carries the same UNC junk, and The smart **** t shirts? They have a wall rack full of them.... Decent flannel or denim shirts? Nooooo....We get these oversized "hoodies" that fit like everyone's a pimpin 390lb gangsta! Or the striped shirts in colors that only fancy boys like...

Target has gone in an opposite direction, good quality/selection but prices are through the roof....Especially in contrast to WW.

We do most of our shopping at Farm&Fleet or local small businesses nowfor the majority of our necessities. The prices are usually between WW and Target and they usually have what we need right there with no hassles.

Ebay is okay for some stuff, but I did notice some things on there that you can get at a local retailer for about the same price and not have to pay shipping. Where I get a laugh about shipping is say Wal Mart might have a particular item for $20. Some one on ebay is selling one, unopened, new from Wally World for $15 and the shipping across 3 states is $13. I always find that amusing.

Sometime people will choose ease over intelligence.

I still love the XBox 360 BOX that sold on E-Bay for $1,500

I only shopped at walmart While in college, and only went there when I couldnt find what I needed locally, but i found that to be the case more and more, since the new SUPER Walmart was shutting down mom n pop stores left and right. (Rural college town of 15000)

Now that I'm home (suburban town of 30k with many towns around it) I never go to our small "ghetto" walmart. Its not kept clean, or stocked well, there are 20+ other places to shop along the same road.

I hate walmart

Its all about location. You put a wal mart in the ghetto, you will have items centered around gold, silver, various types of 'bling', pimps, etc.

You put it in a neighborhood whose average income is 50k+, you will have nicer stuff.

Put it in a ag community, they will sell wrangler, overalls, probably tractor equipment, etc.

Wal mart is a money making machine. If you put the Ghetto mart in Ag community, it will fail.....Ag-Mart in Rich community...probably wont do well either.

Jason is right. We have a Wal-Mart super center in Conroe TX and the stuff there is crap. Go 12 miles further up the road to Montgomery (and a better neighborhood) to the super center there and the difference is like night and day. Its all about location.

Wal*mart stocks their stores according to location. I went in one in Helena AK and it had a world of John Deere toys in it's toy department.

People can knock the store all they want and I for one avoid going to the super center store here because it just isn't the same as the old store it replaced. But I do go when I have to and I have saved money by buying from them.

Hey Birddog, where do you live? I work at farm&fleet, and can hook u up with their discount

(o wait, no discount)

Anyways, yeah, I hate walmart... And most big box stores.

That's about it, u know, I hate walmart, and I just will continue to do so... Their house brands suck, and the 'just for walmart' stuff is junk also.

Read up on Nesle baby food, and how walmart's been pressuring them to cut the nutritional value of it, to make it cheaper...

Peavey mart is a cool store. I have never thought of comparing ebay and walmart, good call on that!

Since we're ragging on WalMart... you need to check the price per unit on everything they sell. For example, Degree deodorant comes in two different sizes, a large and small. You can buy two of the small ones and actually get more ounces of deodorant than buying one large one... and it's CHEAPER to buy the two smaller ones! They have everyone believing that if they just grab the BIG one they will be getting a good deal.

I also don't like how walmart helps their employees get on public aid because they don't provide any benefits along with their low pay. http://walmartwatch.com/home/pages/w...gn_is_underway

Walmart also boasts about how their stores create jobs, when infact for every 2 jobs created by walmart, 3 jobs are lost elsewhere because of walmart. Walmart uses bully tactics when dealing with maunufactures, resulting in low pay and layoffs for US factory workers.

A friend is the the HVAC business and got a call on a weekend from walmart that their unit was down for one of their food coolers. Walmart tells my friend how much they will pay him to fix their stuff! Of course it was nowhere close to what an HVAC guy should make, especially for an emergency weekend repair, so he declined.

And walmart was built on "Buy American", now they screw us by buying 70% of their stuff from China! "Economist Suggests Over A Million Jobs Lost To China Since 1990s." http://walmartwatch.com/home/pages/t...en_this_is_now

I don't go to Walmart for anything.
