When it comes to buying a truck? I bid on a truck yesterday, won the bid, but didn't get the truck because the "reserve" was not met!!??? I went to the website for the dealer selling the truck, and my bid was only $2,000 less than there listed asking price!!??? So my question is, whats the point of buying on e-bay if you are going to pay the same price as at the dealership???
Did you ever find out what their acutal reserve was? Most of the time they will set a reserve that is a little bit off their dealership asking price. I was looking at a Jeep a few years ago on ebay and the dealer just happened to be located in the same town as me. This one didn't have a reserve, but they were asking 7000 for it as a walk in and this was what their buy it now was on ebay. I think the guy who won the auction paid 6900 for the Jeep, but then had to pay shipping of drive to pick it up, so he probably would have been better to have just bought it at the dealer.
eBay Motors is no longer the venue to get "Deals". It is now a place for sellers to get rid of their junk. It is a place full of scammers and shysters.
There are some fair deals and honest sellers. But you have to check them out. Never buy a vehicle without inspecting it. Never pay by Western Union, which in 99.999% of the time is a scam. You're better off in most cases to buy locally. Need more?
Don't let 94van scare you off. Although i have never bought a vehicle on Ebay I have sold a couple. Not everyone of them is a scam. Pay attention to what you are doing and ask lots of questions. Pay lots of attention to feedback, I won't buy any big ticket items from anybody with little to no feedback. The guys with a lot of positive feedback are not in the market to rip people off otherwise they wouldn't have lots of postive and in turn wouldn't sell as much.
Depending on what you are looking for and where you are at you can still find some great deals on Ebay. Don't forget to figure in how much fuel and or airfare it will cost you to go get it or how much delivery will be. Godd luck with whatever you decide
Ebay is not bad, if you know what you want and what your looking for and check the seller out you should be safe. I sold a car and a jeep on Ebay. Both deals went very well. I was going to by my Excursion on Ebay but found it on the website of an out of town dealer and got it there. Ebay lets you find vehicles that have the options you want that you cant find at a local dealer, thats why I was looking there.
I have done alot of other buying and some selling on Ebay and have never had a bad deal.
I will never buy a car off ebay, I would rather drive it before I buy it. I refuse to buy a car that I haven't been able to take a good look over and been able to test drive. Someone may say it is all fine and dandy, but if it gets to you and something runs a little rougher than what they said, or it had a leak that they didn't catch, I don't wanna be SOL. I always will go in person to look at it and pay for it in person.
There is a service in North America of which you pay $100, and they'll send a trained mechanic/inspector dude to the vehicle (used) you're thinking of buying from another part of the country, and they'll completely inspect/test the vehicle and give you a report.
Kinda neat idea
E-Bay is kickass for rare/exotic vehicles and the such. I actually found and bought my current truck on ebay It was located 600 miles away. I had it shipped to my front door.
I suggest using PayPal when buying anything off of E-bay. I had bought everything that I have purchased off of E-bay with money orders because I can't seem to get Pay-Pal to work for me (long story). I got scammed a while back on a Mallory Unilite Distributor for my 402 FE and still haven't got it sorted out. I don't know how to get to Ebay and let them know what happened.
Well, I would never buy a car or truck of Ebay. I just would never want to make such a purchase on a picture alone. After saying that, reserves are set for a reason. If a KBB price is $20k and the winning bidder is $15k. The seller would lose $5k. It is just to protect the seller from losing too much. Most ebay motors sellers are mostly dealers trying to reach more buyers. They are just trying to seel vehicles. They are not looking to unload vehicles fast for whatever price they can get.
Like I said I would never buy a vehicle off ebay.

If the vehicle is something found on most local car lots, there is no advantage when trying to buy or sell on eBay. On the other hand, I had a '69 Triumph GT6+, in great shape I could not sell locally at the asking price but sold on eBay for $2,000 over. The more obscure the vehicle, the more suited it is for eBay.
