I have a 1965 f250.The steering column has a green dot on the shift indicator, what trans is this? Mine only shifts once nomatter what I do.Is this normal?
It doesnt mattet what position I put it in the trans only shifts once, even if I put it in low then shift manually it only shifts once.
It's possible that the detent on the lever is worn, so that regardless of whether the shift lever is in the small dot, or the larger one on the shift dial...it's only working on one.
It's also possible that the metal shift gate that attaches to the shift collar is worn down...allowing only one of the two drives to be accessed.
If you start in low and then manually move it to drive, does it shift up or stay in low?

I did some searching on the subject of shifting problems for the cruise-o-matic and found that the problem can be from worn bushings or a leaking/warped valve body. The fluid is basicly not building the pressure it needs to move the servo around to engage the high gear. You can attatch a pressure guage to the ports on the trans case to help figure out where the problem lies. How many miles are on the tranny? And the next question is do you feel like doing an overhaul if the pressures are out of specs?
I would rule out bad shift linkage bushings if the transmission engages all the other gears normally.

Reason: forgot stuff
I'd start simple. Crawl undewr the truck and see if the hard plastic bushings on the lever on the trans and the column are worn or even still there. These wear out over time and also crack and fall apart. You can still get them thru your local Ford dealer if this is the case. If they're ok, then you might have a more serious problem. Find a good tranny shop that's been around a while and have it diaged. It could be simple or it may be more. It might be a bad modulator valve. These go bad and mess with the shifting process. THey cause hard shifts, no shifts, diaphram goes bad inside and tranny fluid gets sucked into the engine.
I'm no expert on automatics, I'd take it somewhere and have them drop the pan and look inside.
