I just bought a 65 f100 with an auto transmission. Someone converted it from a column shift three speed to a column shift auto. I believe that they changed the entire column. The plastic gear indicator is missing. I checked the online store and LMC truck's catalog, but can't find one for a 65 or 66. Does anyone know where I could get one? Thanks.
Phil, It would be helpful if we knew which tranny, and engine that you have and what year model that you think that your column came from. If the column is from a 75, you don't need to be looking for a 66 indicator. The 66 indicator does not have an edge, where as the later models do. Give is a little more to chew on.

I believe that the column is from a similar year. The trans is a c-6 behind a fe big block. The part of the column that the shifter is attached to has an orange pointer on it that I think goes behind a clear plate with numbers on it. The truck has what looks to be original power steering, if that matters here.
I would guess that the power steering and column came from a 66 then. I know that the truck is a 65 for sure and that it was built in July 65. I know that the door is original and the info came from the data plate. The truck isn't running at the moment so I can't determine what shifter position does what. To make matters worse the previous owner installed a floor shifter that isn't hooked up. So the truck has two auto shifters and a clutch pedal. I want to keep the column shift.
Phil, You could get auto on that truck, but it would have been a FMX Cruse-O-Matic with the green dot on the selector and a clear indicator with no border. The C6 & FMX are the only two auto trannys available for the FE. The C6 is a 1 piece alu bell and body + tail, while the FMX is a 2 piece castiron body with alu bell + tail. Does your indicator look like it is missing it's border?
A later model ps gear can be bolted in from as late as 79 and be a factory fit. I have a transplanted 76 ps gear and column in my truck, along with a C6 that replaced 3 on the tree.
Keep talking and maybe we can figger it out for you.

I have a original 66 F 250 camper special selector off the original column shift,if you are interested email me @ Fatzncompany(No Email Addresses In Posts!),Fatz
I checked today and the truck definitly has a C6. Is the shift pattern the same as the Cruise-O-Matic? I think you guys might be talking about the part of the column that moves with the shifter. The one in my truck has a pointer with an orange line. I am missing the part with P,N,D,1,2 printed on it that the pointer sits behind.
Phil, You definetly have a transplant there. No The C-O-M has a different shift pattern from the C6. You should be able to grab a shift indicater and install it on your truck. I am refering to the same part as yourself.

John, thanks for the info. I have decided to wait on this project until the truck runs and is drivable. I'm glad there are people out there willing to help the new guys.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-Dec-01 AT 06:11 PM (EST)]John yes it has P then a R and N underlined with little dots under each ,then the word DRIVE spelled out with a small dot under the D and a large Green dot under the letter E and then another smalldot with the letter L above it which is all underlined. I hope after all this it is worth at least the value of my time to type this!!!( about 1 word per minute)FatzX04
Phil,Do you have an owners manual? It shows a picture of the indicator in there.I took an indicator off of I think a 66 fairlane with cruise-a-matic in it and took off the chrome border and looks like a truck indicator now with the green dot!I am not sure if it will work yet?
Philo, You need part number 43-7226 available from LMC page 91 of there catalog number FB.12 Costs about 20 bucks. This will be the one for a C-6 and has P R N D 2 1 Clear plastic with white letters and no shroud.
