I just purchased a '04 F150 5.4 4X4. I was told that the truck has factory remote keyless entry, but the remotes have been lost. How can I tell if the truck is equiped with remote keyless entry, and if so where can I get the remotes?
I'm guessing you'll have to visit a dealership to find out whether or not you're already set up for the remote keyless entry. You can, of course, buy remotes from them ... or perhaps online via eBay. Other forum posters may have more info on that.
Just cycle the key from off to on 8 times and stop at on..if the locks cycle down and up then you have a working factory keyless entry system. Most 5.4 equipped 4x4 would.
You may have to have the driver door open or may require it to be closed. May have to cycle door switch to unlock first. Your owner manual will tell you how to program remotes.

This is correct to reprogram remotes. I'm guessing any ford remote will work, once you enter into the program mode, you click one button on the remote, door locks cycle and you click one button on any other remotes you want. Up to 4 or 6 can be programed this way. Turn key off to exit program mode.
Just a warning you must have all the remotes with you or the ones not used during program will no longer work.
I bought the keyless entry buttons that stick on the side of the door and basicly it works just like a remote in case you lock in or lose your keys. When I programed the keyless entry pad the first time I didnt do the remotes and they no longer worked... just reenter the program mode and cycled all the remotes and it picked them all up again.
$110 but worth if if I ever lock my keys in the truck.
