Folks,
Have any of you run across any junkyard heater/AC systems that swap nicely into these trucks? I know that you can buy aftermarket systems, but am asking this first. I don't care what it came out of.
Thanks,
Brett
good question!..I would be interested in what others have to say on this one. I have a 49 F-1 going to be 460/C6 with headers. Is there anyone here that has put one of these systems in the 49? or would it be easier to use one from one of the after marketers?
I once used the heater set up from a 72 F100 in a 48 F1 that I owned. It didn't have air conditioning but adapted pretty well into the truck. Theunit bolted to the firewall inside the cab and I was able to adapt the controls to the dashboard.
In my 53 f100, I used a sleeper unit from a Kenworth sleeper that
bolts to the floor in the sleeper. I had the box chromed, made 2 "L"
brackets and mounted it upside-down with the fittings sticking through the firewall. A/C and heater work excellent!
The junk yard owner in your area should be able to help you there. Mine told me that you can get one out of some of the old jeeps. Looks just like the vintage air add-on. You may have to get the a/c then a heater from another vehicle and just inter connect the hoses(vent outlets) He said that the toyotas have real small systems that work well. Myself, I just found one through a friend out of an old 60's car. They have the coolest looking and smallest ones. Look better than the vintage air ones and have everything combined in the size of two yellow pages books stacked.
I'll have to get pictures. No way I can afford the $900 for a new one that costs $100 at the junk yard. :-staun
I HAVE SEARCHED THE BONEYARDS FOR YEARS LOOKING FOR THE RIGHT AC/HEAT SYSTEM I EVEN REMOVED SOME SYSTEMS FROM CARS FOR STUDY.I CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THEY WERE ALL JUST TO BIG.I HAVE GOT TWO OLD 60S ERA
DEALER ADD ON AC UNITS THAT I THINK WOULD WORK OK.HOWEVER I DID NOT LIKE THE WAY THEY LOOKED. AND ENDED UP SHELLING OUT THE BUCKS FOR A
KIT FROM OLD AIR.GOOD LUCK ON FINDING THE RIGHT SYSTEM
