Regardless of where the mode selector is turned on my wife's '02 Explorer, air is blowing only out of the dash vents. Can't get it to go to the floor or defrost. Of course this happened just a few days after the extended warranty expired.
My wife stopped at the dealer thinking this might be a simple fix but was told that it would around $800-900, mostly labor to R&R the dash.
Have others run into this and is there a cheaper, do-it-myself fix, such as the blend door fix?
Generally this happens when you loose the vacuum control to the controls. Normally it defaults to the Defrost for safety. So, if you have good vacuum to the controls then you have a stuck door.
The vacuum line comes in from the passengers side near the kick panel. See if it has vacuum to it.
start the engine, pull the hose off and the motor end should be sucking. the heater will default to blowing out the defrost when you remove the hose. if it is sucking good at the hose, put it back on and the selector should then be able to go to panel or floor. it it does not move, but you have vacuum, then problem is in the control **** or dash panel
i had the same problem and i took it to the dealer and they found that a/c solenoid mainfold wasnt working so they replaced it. the part only cost $43.70 + labor $152 all total was $195.70 and the part number is 1L2Z*19D611*AA SOLENOID ASY
IM VERRY HAPPY cuz i heard around here it may cost $800 to $900 but not all problems are the same. people pay the $95 to the dealer so he can run a diagnost on your car and find the real problem. so i hope this helps some one.
