24" wipers

I put on the 22" Bosch wipers they seem to work good. I had Anco 20" winter blades and when cold they would not wipe the windsheild because they would not conform to the glass. I did not go to long because years back at work we put bigger blades on our plow trucks and had problems with motors and wiper linkage because of a bigger load than desgined for. That could be a issue where I live with snow and slush loads on the wiper system. If Ford could put the bigger wipers on they would have for a more expensive part to sell but maybe the system can't take the load.

I was thinking about that and the huge amount of weather they might have to move here near Buffalo, NY. Also, I have run "arctic" blades forever and while there is nothing better in winter, they do tend to lift at highway speeds and wipe poorly then. I'd have to guess a longer blade would be even worse, but I'd sure like to get that wider wiping pattern. I'll stick with 20-22"-ers. I remember a Teflon blade being advertised, but haven't seen it when shopping...did it disappear?

I found the Teflon ones on here, but the cheapo stores around here don't carry them...guess they figger no one will buy anything but the cheapest items they can carry. It must be the WNY economy.

Mebbe can order them on-line somewhere.

Arrow 24" blades

After reading several posts...from here at FTE...and other sites...I went with the 24" blades. Have not used them yet...but will report...for this season. I went with the trico Exact fit blades. Those 20" blades just seem so small.

I replace my blades on all our vehicles every year.

As for the windshield fluid...I use Prestone De- Icer Windshield Washer Fluid with Dirt Blocker. Works great for my needs...and certainly keeps the fluid from freezing. Good stuff...

24" blades for winter driving

I have run the 24" Bosch Micro Edge Excel in the winter for the last two winters without any issues. As dallbright mentioned I have run the arctic blades too, but found that they lift too much at speed. The Bosch blades work well in the ice and snow, but the brackets can get iced up in certain conditions. A shot of Rain-X de-icer washer fluid cleans that up though.

OK, i read this earlier this week, and while goofing around in wal-mart this morning i found myself on the wiper isle. i bought a pair of 24 inchers and my goodness what a difference they make over the stock 20 inchers. I can't believe they don't come from the factory with 24 inch wipers... they fit perfectly and dang near cover the whole thing.... good call guys.

I read all these posts the week after(of course- go figure) I bought new 20" blades. I will be replacing them with the 24" blades next year. Like others here I put new blades on every year, usually late fall so I have a new set for the winter.

I swear by Rain-X, have used it for years and it's great. As mentioned above, I too use it on all the windows, and the outside mirrors besides. The stuff I have used is a liquid that you wipe on, let dry to a haze and then wipe clean. I just got the spray on kind this year and expect the same great results from it. I also use the Rain-X washer fluid which seems to keep it from being "wiped off" after a few months.

I did the exact same thing. Installed the 24" blades today and they look good! Kinda hard to explain to the wife why I needed new wipers when I just bought them a week ago - but she thinks I'm crazy when it comes to my truck anyway.

Thumbs up

That just gave me an idea.... I'll check the Freestyle and Crown Vic to see if they will take 20" blades. If they will, I'll move these over and get the 24" ones right off the bat!! Thanks for the inspiration!!

If this plays out right, I'll get bonus "sweetie points" for getting her "new winter blades" and have the big ones on the truck!!

I have put a set of Anco 20" blades on my truck about a month ago because the factory set were horrible. I have had great luck with Anco on all my vehicles before....are the Bosch better than the Anco's? I will be replacing with a set of 24" blades shortly, good call on getting bigger blades!

I love my 24" Anco's. They cost me $3.54 a piece for replacement blades at WallyWorld and I replace them about every 6-12 months (i.e. when they need it)!

I went with 22's this year. We'll see how they last and maybe next year 24's.
