I'm having problems with my truck overheating, I know its not the fluid cause it stays full and pressurized, I dont think its the thermostate cause the heater always work i need some help
A few things can be a bad water pump, clogged radiator, an air bubble in the system, or an air bubble right below the thermostat, so it never gets to open, and the air bubble stays there......those are a few things.
If the fan shroud is missing, the fan won't be able to pull any air through the radiator.
If the radiator is blocked, so air can't flow through it.
If the Radiator has mud in it (the outside being packed between all the fins from going through ALOT of mud), no air can pass, and will cause overheating.
it's a stock setup right?...no motor swaps or anything? or power adders, or lot sof performance parts in your motor?
Is there a shroud on it...Have you done a motor swap...Flex fan installed with new spacer.....The placement of the fan and shroud would need to be close to exact to stock....If the fan is too far in or out...It screws up the draw to cool the motor.....
actually the distance of the fan from the radiator and such doesn't make as big of a difference as you would think. I've done many motor swaps, and as long as the new fan is somewhat close the radiator, I run it that way!.....I've even put a 302 in a ranger that had a 2.8, and used the stock radiator, w/o a shroud, and never overheated.
It matters when on a trail ride or sitting idle....Maybe not as much with a smaller engine.....With no shroud you really are not pulling fresah air over the motor to cool it....Your moving the air but not directing its flow..........It really only matters if the noob returns to his or her post....I hate run away topics....
yea, a shroud is definetely good to have, but I would've had to make one for the ranger, and I really didn't care too, I hated that truck.....the only thing I liked about it was that it hauled ***, and burned one mean tire...well 2 cuz I welded it posi....but same thing
I hate post and run topics too. Especially those you go to some special effort to find an answer. :|
I was going to suggest that just because the heater works doesnt mean the thermostat is good. Its just remaining closed like it should when cold. The heater works off bypass water flow so it would get hot first.
