Laws are different everywhere, but I would think in the majority of city situations, this would be considered at least cruelty to animals and the PETA people have probably got the city departments on alert for these problems. It is amazing the sometimes ridiculous levels of law suits for this kind of thing.

If you saw this happen and there was toxicol.ogy testing on the animal afterwards, you may have a pretty good case in many locales.

If you were in the country, many communities have laws about roaming pets so you may be out of luck there.

Good Luck and sorry for your loss.

In this day and age the only way to do it legally is to call the cops and have some proof.

Years ago guerilla tactics would have been seriously considered.

AH on re-reading the post, sounds like you have a "freind of a friend" case, which isn't much use.

If I were him, and I am sure this is illegal(at least destruction of property), I would get a bag of Cassoron and go out late at night and spread it around his lawn, or better spell out something on the grass. After about 2 weeks, the grass will be dead and who knows what may be spelled out. You could also use Triox or Roundup or many of the other vegetation killers. Of course spelling out something would be mnore obvious that someone did it versus, the "grass just died".

I believe a law was passed to add bittering agents to antifreeze, but I do not think that law has come into effect yet. So regular antifreeze is just too tasty for many animals and children to resist. Takes only a few spoonfuls and a nasty way to die.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson

Accidental poisoning is fairly common according to this website.

Why would your neighbor want to kill your dog? Does it bark all night, every night or does it harass his kids? Does your friend that stated he did this have something against that person?

I'm not condoning his alleged actions, just curious what may have led to that much anger in a neighbor.

Thats is just plain wrong. I have been in situations where a dog had to be taken care of for chasing live stock. I tried to take care of it by finding the owner, talking etc. By no means did I enjoy it but I had to shoot the dogs. I don't go around killing things for no reason but there is a right way and a wrong way. Anti-freeze is the wrong way. Sound like the person wasn't man enough to confront the situation correcty.

Looks like the person could have called animal control & had the dog picked up if there was a problem.
Anti freeze would be cruel IMO.

IMO feeding antifreeze vs going to talk to the neighbor across the fence is the coward's way out.

Maybe he (mr.scumbag ****) doesn't know how to read the article (North Carolina Cruelty to Animals Statutes)

Ryan, why would they (peta) want the dog eaten?
Oh, that PETA. Never mind.
