Uncaring in the sense that if they own dogs that bear young and she happens to have puppies they don't want so they haul them off.
A small black puppy, about 6 weeks old is my guess, showed up at my house last week. My girlfriend and I tried our best to catch it but to no avail. I thought the dog next door had another litter because she looked like she was pregnant. When I asked my neighbor if the puppy belonged to them, they said no. The oldest boy said he saw a car stop in front of my house and drop the poor dog off.
Well, after a couple days of not seeing the puppy, I found it today, behind the wheel of a trailer in my yard, near death. She was eat up with ticks and ants were crawling all over her. I tried giving her water but she just turned up and looked at me. I noticed she was breathing hard and by the time I got back with a box to put her in.....she died.
Why in the h*** do people allow their dogs to have puppies, only to haul them off or just plain out and out kill them?
I'm sorry but it pisses me off that folks won't get their dogs 'fixed' so they won't reproduce. My neighbors dog has a litter every 6 months it seems like and the puppies wind up getting run over or they haul them off.
I'm upset that the little dog died but I did give it a proper burial in the back corner of my yard.
I'm through ranting now.
But if you have dogs and don't want them to reproduce...please get them fixed. Ok?
Thanks
Richard
Oh ya we have that problem where we live. I live in the booneys and all the city-folk come and dump there dogs off the highway, alot! hundreds(i cant spell today) i have one of my own, but hes half white german shepard and half of a wolf, or a husky. my granpa took in these dogs. he had like 20 dogs on his old farm down the hill from here, every body took the dogs after he died in feb and no one would take the big corky dog, the white one, he is acts just like my papa, i guess since he was there all the time with him for about a year he acts like him now.
the only thing bad is his name is buster and the dog ive had since he was a pup name is foster, so they hear the "ster" and come running, but they have nicknames like bubba and puppy..
thats a happy ending tho. theres hundreds of dogs along a 30 mile stretch of highway where i live. dead dogs, hit by cars
I'm with you on that, brother. (Though lately I think that would apply more to cats in my city, than dogs. And when the clueless owners decide the grown up cat is not as cute as the little kitten it once was that it's easier to just let it roam loose in the neighborhood to fend for itself.)
Though you probably do have some recourse you can take. Try looking into your local animal shelter or city ordinances for the regs on spaying, neutering(sp?). I bet some anonymous reports to the animal control officers would spur some action. I know that my city has a 2 dog limit per household.
P.S. Good for you, for giving that pup a proper burial and not just tossing it in the trash like common garbage.
i lived in tonni town (tulsa) for a few years and they have cat and dog problems like crazy, i live on 31st and 145th street, on the edge of the woods and the woods had a crazy amount of animals
I live in a rural area too and see our share of abandoned pets along the road. It happens in spurts. Some years quite afew and some none at all. Mostly after the winter season is over and the "guests" leave. Very few dogs can survive on their own as they are so dependent on humans. Sometimes these dogs will band into feral packs to cause problems in town.
Right now, I have one six month old mixed male on a chain outside the fence as a couple of my females are coming into "heat". My husband brought Geri and his sister, Freki, home six months ago back as gifts to me. I was hoping to get him neutered before now but money has been tight. Will be calling the vet tomorrow to setup an appointment but at least being seperated, there will be no puppies.
I cannot count how many dogs I have adopted that were "dropped off" by the owners. People like that sicken me. It is a bad problem here cause we dont have any animal shelters around, but on the same note, I know plenty people who would love to have a puppy for a pet. All they would have to do is ask around rather than dropping the dog off in an unknown neighborhood where it could starve or get hit by a car.
Yes we have a big old barn on the farm and it seems like every so often we get some extra animals left here. We try to find homes for them but can't do it all. We have a great animal shelter who takes them in and finds homes. Yes the people who DROP off animals should be strung up because all they do is hurt the animal who has done nothing to them. All the person has to do in most areas is take them to the humane society and they will find the animal a happy home.
