`79 460 Swap into F250

Hi guys,

I've another question from my dad, he has a `79 F-250 Ranger XLT, with a 400M and C6 transmission. He would like to swap in a 460 from the same year, and would like to know how far off the mounts are from eachother, would a 460 bolt right in with the proper original 460 mounts? Or is there going to be some kind of fabrication needed?

Any help is appreciated.

It will bolt right in with the motormounts from Jeffs Bronco Graveyard. You can find their site under the sponsors on the left. Its a pretty easy swap.
Good luck

Note: It may help to notch the 'pads' in the truck. It's a ticht fit and notching them makes it a lot easier to drop in.

I took my front clip off in one big section and it made bolting in the towers and setting the motor in a breeze.

Is it a 4x4 or 4x2 ?

If it is a 4x2. he can get the 3-pc motor mounts off a 460 donor truck at a wrecker for a lot less money.

If it is a 4x4 he can get the motor mounts, rear sump oil pan from a 460 E-series van.

If you live in a hot climate......He will need to get a larger Radiator and special fan shroud as well.

Btw, tell your dad the 400 engine is just a 400 not a 400M

The M suffix belongs to the 351M.

There are at least 150 ...351M/400 - 460 swap threads on this forum.
