PS2..How does it know what the date is?

PS2..How does it know what the date is?

My kid has a racing game and when we get busted by the cop in the game it displays the date, its always correct??? This PS2 is NOT connected to the internet in any way, heck, sometimes the power strip is off for days at a time.. How does it know the date? (Ok, so Im an old fart... help me out)

There is a little battery inside that perserves memory like a watch , the clock was set at the factory.
When it's plugged in, the power charges it some more.

I suppose it will last a few years.

same deal with the puter.... if your date/time starts slipping, its time for a new battery

Dennis is close. I am assuming there is some type of battery in it somewhere to remember the date and time. But YOU have to set up the date I believe. Load up the PS2 WITH NO CD in it. There should be some settings you can get to to change the date.

I just double checked (because I have nothing better to do). If you boot up the PS2 with no CD it will let you select one of two options: Browser or System Configuration. System Config is where you set up the time, date, sound and video options.

I believe it resets when you unplug it. At least, on my xbox (original, not 360), each time I unplug it, the first thing it does when I power it back up is prompt me for the date and time.
