Good news bad news... I started back at the fuse box and found a big yellow wire with a bad splice. I cut off the butt connector and respliced by soldering and covering with heat shrink. This wire is associated with the dash light circuit so I had an easy indicator as long as the light switch was on. After I corrected the splice the truck started right up and ran well but I noticed that if I wiggled the same yellow wire the dash lights would flicker ... I think this is a loose connection at the fuse box itself. I decided I could live with intermittent dash lights for a while and tried to put the headlight switch/fusebox back in the dash (truck still running) but the hot wire to the cigarette lighter was in the way so I disconnected it and accidentally shorted it. Well the truck died immediately and now everything is dead again. I checked and all the fuses are still good. So I decided rather than start throwing thins in frustration, I'd stop and eat lunch and get back to it later. As I mentioned earlier, I got a new (used) harness coming anyday and I think I just need to wait and try to put it in and start fresh.

A wire melted somewhere in between the battery and cigarette lighter. Do the light trick I wrote about in my earlier post to find the bad dash lights and no power issue.

Yeah I figured it's melted a wire somewhere and I'm thinking it might be at the soldered splice. The whole fuse bus has been spliced in. Some of the splices are soldered and others are crimped.
