I have a 2007 F350CC dually 6.0L PSD with an Edge Juice Platinum module / A2 monitor combined with a 4" turbo back exhaust. I regulary tow a 12,000 pound 5th wheel (with the power setting on the Juice dialed to 2nd from lowest setting) and have noticed an occassional engine temp "alarm" on the A2. The alarm always comes on an steep hill climb of course. The odd thing is that it's not an EGT alarm, that never goes above 1100, it's engine temp which is set to 210 degrees as the threshold.
My question is, is 210 the proper "alarm" threshold? The dash guages don't indicate any overheading although the fan does operate so I do know the engine is heating up.
Hmmm, the 210 is the default setting on the A2 monitor and seemd low. Seems to me that 220-230 (extending to 235 max, 240? yup I'd worry) would likely be a more appropriate range.
I guess it's not too surpising that Edge would default the warnings way low.... and of course Ford doesn't spec a high limit...?
well the thermostat opens at 210-212. and it has to get at least this hot to do so. of course depending on where your getting your reading from will probably give you a variety of readings
My Edge A2 monitors oil temp but doesn't alarm on it. I think that's because the oil temp always follows the coolant temp so coolant is an earlier warning.
Jake, if you're seeing oil temps up to 225 without problems then it would stand to reason that raising my coolant temp alarm setting to that is pretty safe.

Are you sure the thermostat opens at 210? My 2004 PSD usually stays at 188 according to my Scanguage although I've been up to 220 towing through the Rockies.
to be completely honest, i dont know what degree temp it is but i know from watching pids usually 210 up to 220 you can watch them flucuate with the thermostat opening and closing.
I dont have any gauges other then the stock dash gauge, but I was told by a dealership that up to 230-235 would be normal on a hot day with a big trailer on a long hill. In the same breath he also told me that 240 was too hot. Dosent seem like there is a lot of play room there. My dually has never hit 240 or puked coolant, but the gauge does move around a lot.
