As stated above Ford/IH does not use a gasket......just the highest quality sealant. A lot of the leaks come from the two front corners on the pan or where it goes under the front seal as usually not enough sealant is used or the wrong type.
The PO of my truck parked mine on grass, that and the road salt used during winter turned my pan into a better oil filter than holder of oil . I guess the pan rusting out is pretty common in the northern climates? I would clean and paint it with a good rust preventing paint as a maintenance item.
I also had a small persistant leak at the front of the engine, thought it was front seal, but it turned out to be an easy fix- the top waterpump bolts were loose enough to pass oil from the timing gear cover. A little RTV and retorque cleaned up the problem.
i forgot to mention that there was a small crack on the top of my oil pan and amazingly that was the cleanest spot on the pan. i put a little bit extra silicone on it and on the outside i put some muffler cement on. It hardens with heat and it seems to still be holding. If i have to ill touch it with the mig welder.
