I'm anxious to hear from guys who've used POR-15 engine paints. I seem to recall at least a couple guys have used it and liked it. How is it holding up?
I'm trying to make up my mind if the POR 15 engine paint kit is worth the $50-$70 price tag, or if I should just go with the high heat engine paint that's available everywhere and would do the whole engine for less than $20.
I have used the spray can type engine paint and it never lasted, it peeled in a very short time. I used the POR-15 engine paint kit on the flat six in my F-2. I painted it about seven years ago and it holds up like iron. I don't take care of the engine in the truck other than doing mechanical upkeep, I rarely wash the engine but when I do it cleans up really well. The POR-15 kit comes with everything you need to paint the engine, degreaser, acid etching primer, paint and brushes. The paint is high solids and when you brush the first coat on it is very streaky but lays downs really smooth. The second coat the same. After it's dry it looks like it was sprayed on.
I used the kit, sprayed it with a jamb gun, and it came out great, and held up for the past two years with no problems. I forgot two small parts and brushed it on them and it leveled out nicely. Stuff seems tough.
Thanks for the responses. If I go the Por 15 route, I'll probably go with the Hi Po yellow color. Looks pretty close to the 56 Ford yellow that I've seen.
I used both the POR HI PO Yellow brushed on as well as the high temp spray on Daytona Yellow. Both closely match the original yellow on my 55 engine and both have held up 2 years as of now.

I too have choosen the POR engine enamal and I also picked up their high temp - manifold gray. However, I am not to the point of being able to test it. I have painted each part with a brush and as said above, the first coat doesn't look very good. The second coat on the other hand is sweet and both coats level out nicely.
Since I am hand cleaning/sandblasting almost every part, I did not get the engine kit, just individual pints of paint.
That's good news you liked it so much, Fred, as your engine is one of the best I've seen and I want mine to look the same!
Spyfoxx, I'm glad you mentioned the first coat/second coat thing. After my negative experience brushing the Zerorust on the frame, I might have freaked out when the first coat on the engine didn't look that great. I'll have more patience based on your advice.
I painted my flatty black with the POR 15. Only about 1500 miles on it so far but it still looks like new. Had plenty of the paint left over for touch ups, but no need for it yet. I have never used an off the shelf rattle can engine paint that lasted very well at all.
