I'm looking at buying a Ford F250 from an individual, but the airbag light is on. He says it only needs a new key that would only cost around $60-$70. Does anyone know if this information is correct?
I don't have any idea of the cost of a replacement key. But, I am assuming talking about a key for the disable key switch on the dash for the passenger side air bag? If so, on my 2001 it is the same key the as the ignition.
Hope this helps.
John
Welcome to FTE lots of good people and info aroung here
You may want to look at this truck a little more closely. Either the seller doesn't know what he is talking about, or he knows there is a problem with the Air Bag system in the truck. If the ignition key doesn't fit the lock there is a problem. Also the truck may have been wrecked and the air bags not replaced or not replaced correctly.
You may want to have this truck checked out more thoroughly by your mechanic before you decide to buy it. Something doesn't sound right about this sellers story.
thanks to those of you who posted. i didn't use the right wording. the truck has been wrecked and airbags replaced. the ignition key does work for the airbag, but the airbag light comes on when truck is started. the airbag light blinks twice, then seven times, then stays on (if this helps). i was told the airbag switch needed to be replaced costing about $70. does this sound ligit.? thanks.
I am not an expert on Air Bag light flashing sequence, but if it was wrecked , i am guessing there was something done incorrectly when they replaced the air bags. Or they didn't replace the airbags and just said they did. If the truck was repaired by a reputable and qualified shop then there should be no air bag light. Something is definitely wrong in the system, i personally would not buy the truck until you take it to an ASE Certified Ford mechanic and have them diagnose and fix the air bag problem. Just seems odd that the person who is selling the truck had it repaired after it was wrecked, but accepted it from the repair shop with the air bag light illuminated. The insurance company paid to have this truck fixed properly, something seems fishy.
