my 1992 f 250 7.3 idi likes to stall out when the rpms drop suddenly, ie: at a stop sign. I replaced all the o rings on the injector return lines and the problem still exists. It seems to run great, even on cold mornings. So I dont think its an injector pump problem. I think it might be a fuel shut off solenoid or a timing advance solenoid.....? does anyone have any ideas..?
it is a manual...im not sure what the idle speed is, my tach does not work....it has to be something with the fuel shut off because when it stalls it sounds like someone turned the key off......i mean there is no sputtering or anything
I also have a 92, and it too was stalling when I would suddenly take my foot off the accelerator. It had been sitting for awhile, so someone suggested I merely dose the fuel with a good fuel additive since the IP just might be gummed up a bit. I put a whole bottle of diesel additive in the next tank-ful, and ran that on a trip, and it's never done it again!
The suggestion was to also change the fuel filter, and (also) fill the new filter with fuel additive when you install it. Couldn't do that at the time, but the super-dose of additive seemed to do the job just fine.

1992 2WD F-250 7.3L 5-spd - new Jasper longblock, Bought from local University (MSU - 09/20/06). Completely stock as far as I can see - I'm a new owner LOTS of new parts on her- 163,829 miles as of yesterday. Now on to tackling Biodiesel!!
This new ULSD has a cleaning effect on fuel systems. If you have had a bad batch of fuel at one time and some sediment was in your fuel tank. Then there is a good possiblity that all the sediment went into the filter and either partically or fully plugging the fuel filter.
