I need to know which leaf(s) to pull (front & back) in order to acheive a slight drop, I am trying to build a late 50's early 60's era custom truck I am on a budget so this seems to be the easiest way, but I do need advice, Which leaves and how many.......
If you don't reverse the spring eyes, the drop is :
Front=1 1/4"
Rear=1 1/2"
You can reverse the eyes yourself, by placing the mainleaf between two pieces of steel 2" to 4" apart and carefully peening uniformly along the spring untill it reaches the correct curvature in the opposite direction. Measure before starting or chalk the shape on the floor. If you do this you will have to remove the first 1 1/2" from the eye of the #7 leaf, the part that wraps around the main leaf eye.
I've been thinking of taking some leafs out of the springs on one of my trucks to lower it. What does taking those leafs out of the spring pack do to the strength of the springs? I would think by taking out those leafs that the remaining leafs would be taking more of the load? If it works and there's no problems then I'll do it. but the truck will be my daily driver for a few months, and I want to make sure I won't have any probs.

I've had my '59 panel for 20 years. When I was young and desparate, I pulled a couple leaves out of the front end. The immediate effect was excellent, really attracted the chicks. Later, the rest of the leaves were overworked and worn out. This further motivated me to attend school, get a job and buy reveresed eye springs for the same effect. I believe these reveresed eye springs are now back in production (front only?).
