Did Ford make any cab over engine (COE)trucks in the 48-51 years?
I saw a Dodge COE at Hot August Nights in Reno a couple years back, some guy had narrowed the cab, had a small flat bed and it looked great. I've never known just why they made COEs. Length restriction?
Ford did make COE's in the 48-51 years. They look similar to the regular trucks, grille wise, but have the stubby little hood. I'm not sure why they did make the COE's, except maybe, like you said, for the length. I've seen factory photos of Ford car transpaorters from the 40-50's, and they are all using COE's. I think they were aimed towards people using Fords for a tractor trailer set-up.

COE's were made mainly for inner city use. They were shorter so they could get into tighter areas, loading docks, etc.... They were originally concieved as a short tractor for pulling trailers to go into the cities.

Here is a nice example of a COE Ford of that vintage. This truck was listed on Ebay and is located in Appleton, WI.
