I got the bad news today I melted a piston. Don't know how it happened but its bad. The shop basically said I need a new engine most likely from ford. Full warrantied 7.c for 9200 installed. Any ideas or comments would help
I could use some opinions about putting a new engine in my truck the piston was melted and screwed up the cylinder pretty bad so gonna replace it all. Any ideas on what kind of new engine. the shop quoted 6800 for the brand new 7.3 stroker and 9200 installed. If anybody has any ideas they would help.
The engine from ford will probably be a reman. Those arent too bad of engines. You can check into salvage yards or parts store remans. As far as any other types, youre kind of limited to just a 7.3. The price sounds about right.
yea the engine from ford is a reman but it comes with everything except alternator. It also has a 2 year unlimited warranty wich i particulatly liked. I just didn't know if it would be better to get a shortblock and have them do it that way?
Thats something you'll have to decide for yourself. If you get the complete, if something goes wrong, you only have ford to gripe at. Get the short block, you are relying on the techs experience in assembling the engine correctly. If factoring in labor, the final price is probably not that much different.
it is about 1500 cheaper to go with the shortblock but all new parts with a 2 year unlimited milage warranty sounds a lot better. They said they had to core it. Does that mean they have to send in the block? and should I ask for all my parts back from my old engine?
Yeah, they have to send it back. Thats where they get the engines they reman. You can request to keep it, but many times the core charge is more than the cost of the engine.
yea but the engine i'm buying is coming with waterpump, starter, turbo ect everything except the alternator so should i request all of those parts so I will have replacements?
