My truck has been smoking more and more recently and I finally took it to the big ford truck dealer in town and they called me back to say I needed a complete overhaul or a new engine for 11k. They said I had 10 inches of blow by when i shouldn't have more than 5 and that was the basis of needing a new engine. If anybody can give me some advice on what I can do about fixing this problem it would be appreciated
Sorry that I don't know what to tell you, or where to send you...but I'd check back later and try to talk to vloney...he's our powerstroke master and he's damn good.
btw, welcome to the site! Lots of helpful folks around here.
the build date is on a 2x2 white tag on the drivers side door....open the drivers door and look down and right.....top left corner of the tag should have the build date...for example mines 04/98 i.e an early 99
Hate to tell you this, but excessive blowby isnt good at any time. Rather than pay that for a new motor, why not give that problem to someone else? Did they hook up a gauge that looked like it had 4 or 5 gauges on it? If they did, thats the proper one to measure for blowby. Blowby happens when combustion gasses "blowby" the rings on the pistons. There are specs for maximum blowby. For an opinion on dealers up there, contact Jeff Cook (Beachbumcook) up in the 6.0 forum. He lives up there, and does extensive research on dealerships. The official reading for blowby is listed as "less than 6" h20 measured at wot no load"
