Sounds like the internal limiter/parking switch contacts inside the wiper motor are out of adjustment from wear on either the contacts themselves or the operating cam. You can open the motor and mess with the switch settings but it is rather a hit and miss affair. Without the motor installed on the van, it is hard to determine open/close points for the contacts. You would be best served by replacing the motor with a used or rebuilt one.
Park Position
Remove the arm and blade assemblies from the pivot shafts. Turn on the wiper switch, allow the motor to move the pivot shafts three or four cycles, and then turn off the wiper switch. This will place the pivot shafts in PARK position.
Install the arm and blade assemblies on the pivot shafts to Dimension X (69-96mm [2.7-3.8 inches] on driver's side; 77-104mm [ 3.0-4.1 inches] on passenger's side). Dimension X is the distance between the centerline of the blade saddle and the windshield lower moulding or weatherstrip. Dimension X distance must be maintained regardless of level of arm fastening.
Hey guys, I searched through the forum and this was the closest problem I have found with my wipers.
My problem is similar, at a stop in any type of rain instead of the wipers going off the windshield they go up about 3/4 of the way; and when they drop down they fall down and go off the windshield and land on the vent/grill. On the other hand, when I am driving about 45+mph the wipers have some wind to help them up and they work fine; but when I come to a stop they go back to going up 3/4 and down on the grill/vent at the bottom of the windshield. Also if I go grab the wipers I can manually move them up and down quite a bit and that makes me think I have a gear missing some teeth or something. Any suggestions???
