Hello, New guy here. I Have a 1979 F150 that I got from my Grandpa. It's really a pretty nice truck for it age. There is absolutely no rust any where, The truck has 172K on the ticker and the motor has never been apart except for a oil pump and Timing Chain a few years back. Anyways I'm wanting to start doing some work to the ol truck. My truck has the wide alum. trim with the rubber insert down the center and also has the Racetrak chrome down below. I'm looking for some other options on the chrome down the indented seam. I would really like a thinner piece of chrome that take the place of the oem trim. I love Chrome very much but just looking for something a diffrent. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance, Larry.
The junkyards will have old cars with various kinds of chrome trim you may like. The problem I see is , if you remove the factory trim, it will expose the metal studs/rivets that the aluminum wide side trim clips to. These will be in the way of any flatter , smaller trim being installed. If you grind off the rivets, then its body work /paint paint time. I have the race track molding on my 79, its nice , but a pain also. good luck

You'll more likely than not also have paint fade, which won't be faded under the chrome. Again, off to body and paint shop.
