Long weekend

So i get home from work on friday to see that my new filter the 6637 had come. So i go to put it on and i found out i needed a 10 inch piece of 4" pipe. When i originally looked, i did not think i would need one but i guess i was wrong. Wow, what a diffrence no air box makes.

Sunday i decided to tackle the glow plugs since the truck would not start for like 15 minutes if i did not have it plugged in. So i get the left side done without any problems. I thought i got the right side done but when i went to start it I pulled a 1316 code for an IDM code. So i start getting scared that i somehow fried the IDM. So then i look in my trusty service dvd and it gave me a hint to unplug the VC harness. I did and nothing changed so i had to take the VC back off to find out that the connector on the opposite side was a 1/4" out of the female end. So i push it back in and i was good to go. It was a kinda cold mourning and it started like it was nothing.

Ive been lucky with 160,000 miles and no glow plug issues yet. You make it sound farelly easy. I havent been under my valve covers yet and i hope i get one last winter out of my plugs. 6637 is sweet isnt it!

I just did the drivers side gps the other night, got to late to do the passenger side. I've read about the uvc clips comming undone being a common problem. When i took my cover off the two peices of plastic that lock the clips together, one on inside and one on outside, were missing. Wonder where the one on the inside ended up and if it did any damage to anything. I was told the 03, my year, had the new clips that didn't pop off. Guess mine didn't.

10" piece of pipe? How did that work? I used a 3-1/2" piece between the filter and the intake tube. That's all I could fit in there.

I got rid of the plastic ccv piece, I still got all the rubber tubes in place. Getting the glow plugs out is not hard, but it was very time consuming for me. This is the first time i actually "worked" on a diesel engine so i took my time and printed out directions on how to take off the valve covers. I did not want to screw anything up. I went ahead and threw my valve covers and IC pipes in a part washer and washed them because they were dirty. I worked very slow and it took me 6 hours from start to finish. I would have been done in like 4 hour but i sat there for an hour throwing tools and causing a ruckus because i thought a somehow blew up the IDM until i pulled the service DVD out. I love the 6637! I will take pics tommorrow to show the 10" piece of pipe.

Congrats on the completed job.
I like working on diesels a lot more than gassers, there's less to them and once you understand them, they are easier to work on.

It seems easier to me! I think changing these GP is easier than changing the spark plugs on a 5.4.
