Hey guys, I have a 1995 Ford F350. Big Block 460. I have some play in my steering wheel. I was told to replace steering box, and alignment. That didnt help. I had retightened, didnt help. Replace universal joint, didnt help. $700 later, still loose. Any idea what it is. When i drive i have to correct in constantly. I doesnt retract after turns, theres no firm grib, its very wooshy, and its very annoying. My truck is awesome, but driving it can be a headache . Heres some pics. http://www.picturetrail.com/f350baby
check the steering column shaft...under the hood there is a portion of it that has provision for sliding in-out....that wears and you get the drunkin sailor steering response...cant be repaired..if thats it...replace that section..or go to a junkyard and get whole steering column
If it does'nt come out of a turn, then something is too tight.Normally it's box adjustment. But since replacing it and adjusting it didn't help.Jack it up,knock the tie-rods loose, and the wheel should "flop" back/forth,if it does'nt you've got a balljoint thats "dry" or a bad axle u-joint.
The universal joint was just replaced too. So my guess is just look you said is a ball joint. Its the only thing that hasnt been replaced. Also i think its that too because what i take a turn in a parking lot when you have to have the wheel completely turned to make a big cirlce, theres a weird vibration/shaking coming from the wheel, so I think its that to.
