How can I diagnose the problem?? I get white smoke about 90% of the time at start up until the engine gets to N O T. I have followed the directions and replaced the GP relay and have checked all of the GP with the ohm meter and have have .2 or less ohms at the VC connector on all GP. Should the connector have 12v when the key is initially turned on, energizing the GPs. It seems that "occasionally" the GPs are working properly and I would like to know how to find out how to track down where the system is malfunctioning. How does the voltage get from the GP relay to the GP?
What kind of batteries? CCA?
When u turn the key's to ON u should see
the battery votage drop to around 11.25V
when all glow plugs are heating. Eight glow plugs
draw about 10amps/sec.
Do u hear the click of the GPR?
If you have a test light it's pretty easy test, Just make sure both terminals are hot when you turn the key on w/ the motor cold. They should be hot for 1-2 minutes depending on how hot it is. Check w/ the key off and you can see which terminal goes to the battery, if theres no power on any termninal w/ the key off the wire to your battery is open. I'd leave the GPR jumped for longer than 20 seconds if you suspect it, maybe 45 but up to 120 sec is ok.
Theres just a wire that goes from the GPR to the UVC plug.

The engine smokes continuously until it's fully warmed up? This has NOTHING to do with glow plugs.
A small puff at startup is normal and nothing to worry about.
Instead I would be looking at re-doing the injector o-rings or maybe replacing the injectors.
Or getting a compression test and see if you have low compression.
Mine smokes for about 45 secs to a minute on cold mornings. Should i be looking at injectors or o-rings? I haven't had time to check the gps or gp relay but will probably do that tomorrow. Thanks

That's just glow plugs. Most likely you have just one that is not functioning.
Yesterday as an experiment I tried starting my truck on a 40 degree, sea level damp morning here in Seattle without activating my glow plugs just to see what would happen. It fired right up with very little smoke. I was kind of surprised at how easily it started. My GPR failed on me last fall in Colorado and the truck had a hard time starting one morning, when it did, HUGE cloud of fuel smoke and then it cleared out instantly.
