Well I know I have GP issues, as truck starts rough and white smokes when started at 35 degrees or colder, when not plugged in. I replaced the GPR last winter, along with the pass. side glow plugs. I tested the gpr and it works fine.
My question is, when I test the four outer prongs on the VC harness for ohms, do I connect one lead to the battery ground and then the positive to the GP connector, or what should I ground to?
I spent a lot of time trying to test them tonight and I kept getting very different readings, depending on where I grounded and how I touched the GP connector. The display would jump all over and would not give consistent readings. I tried testing them by touching both prongs to the GP harness connector, and then got between .2-.4 ohms, but that does not seem like the proper test method.
So, exactly how do I test the ohms! Thanks for all the help!
the way the manual states is to remove the valve cover and check each glow plug to engine ground ohms should be around 1-2 if not bad plug if it is replace the harness also white smoke below 50 is normal
I been having problems starting my truck, i belive its the GP's. The relay tested good, and the UVC connectors by what i can see look good. I told my buddy about them and he said he had a set of GP. He had 4 brand new in a box and 4 that he did know if they were good or not. He tested them by hookin them up to a battery to see how long until they started glowing hot. They all got hot(they got hot enough to light his cigerette of it). Anyways, does that mean that they are good or not? I know to test them using an ohm meter, but the ohm meter i have does not work. Just tryin to figure out if i should try to find an ohm meter, or would this test be a good enough one since i seen it glow red.

Well they certainly sound like they are. But why not just get another multimeter and be sure. They are really inexpensive anymore, especially the digital variety. It would suck to go through the trouble of an R&R and have one marginal one.
I will have to look into buying another multimeter. the one i got now is a blue point, and it is a DVOM. The only thing that works though is for testing Amps and Volts. For some reason the OHMS will NOT work. I found this out by checking a speaker and it just would jump around, then i used my buddies tester and it actually worked. I think i will just buy another one and hope for the best.
Hey John, just use your buddies meter to check things out. Works for now and gets you going. I have to have a funtioning meter though, for household and vehicles. Not a place I cut corners on. I use it all of the time.
