Wts light had been staying on 8-10 sec. Changed one bad gp and checked all and read about 1ohm each. Found one wire broke off gp connector. Repaired. Now light flashes once and dont hear gp relay click. What have i done or missed. Truck took at least 3 cranking attempts cold before thats why i checked them. 88 f350 7.3 na. Checked continuity on all gp connectors and wires back to control. I assume if a gp is good its good. I got 8 but i dont see the need on changing them if it wont help any. Thanx
Going to replace supply wires from fender to relay tomorrow. Clean gounds. Got two 8ga wires and copper terminals for supply. May replace solenoid too jus for peace of mind and go from there.
If i ground the white wire with key on rely trips and wont disengage until i turn the key off. If i take the white wire off rely works on and off as i touch ground. Hot side of relay gets hot enough to burn you if you touch the terminal with relay tripped for about 5sec.
Here is sme more info. Replaced gp supply with 2 8ga wires soldered to the oe fuseable links i cut out of wires. Cleaned and sanded all terminals and ground. Wts still one flash. Wiggled all gp connectors and one made relay solenoid kick on. So had wife watch light. Came on about 8 sec then went off relay stayed engaged and gp wires at controller metal "z" began to smoke. No cycling. And burnt my hand. Tried again and after about 20 sec cut key off was afraid to wait any longer for cycling. So i got test light out and found 2 more gp not working. I think i tested them wrong yesterday with multimeter. Dont think this episode burnt them out. I believe been out all along. Keep in mind before all this wts light normal and intermittent clicking leaving key on.
Ok so how long is safe for gps to continue heating. I counted 20 sec in my head and wires going to gps started smoking.Do they normaly continue heating that long? Yes i read the diagnosis. Im thinking control. Jus looking for confirmation before i drop the money on a new control unit.
