1950 Rad height

Can anyone measure the height difference from top of radiator to top of front grill; where hood latches. I am in process of re-assembling and do not have hood at moment. I fear the rad I had built may be too high. I moved rad ahead in engine area to drop in 302.

measured distance

I measured from top of rad tank to sill of front grill; mine is 9 1/4" inches, also the rad is mounted towards front holes. I'll have to get the front clip in place and mount hood, is it necessary to remove inner deflector from hood?

Mflat if you have a picture that would be great, to reference from.

You should be ok with 9 1/4" - there seems to be plenty of room above. You will need to move the air deflector to the front location as it comes down just in front of the rad. I believe Ford used the same deflector for V8's and 6's. I'll try to get you a picture this am.

(For anybody else reading this for info) The early F's have 2 sets of holes for the radiator mount in both the inner fenders and crossmember. Rear set for V8's and a matching front set for longer 6 cly engines. And, because the area is parallel you can easily slide the rad support forward or backward for engine swaps.

If you moved the radiator ahead you will need the 6 cylinder air deflector as the V-8 one won't work correctly. I'm going to have to make one for my hood since we didn't get any I-6 engines till '57.

Nathan is probably right about the deflector. It's been several years since mine was apart.

Rad height

Thanks for the info guys; it looks like I'll be OK with my rad dimensions.

I spent yesterday at the local junk yards, got hanging brake pedal from Ford van; rectangular gauges from a van from that other manufacturer. will be working on modifying instrument cluster next. Will post new pictures in a couple weeks.

Thanks again

Tom

The hood air deflector should be able to move ahead quite easily, mine has a few different holes where it can go. The lower one you will have to modify though.

The mounting holes are 1 3/4" closer together on the 6 cylinder position. I do not have a parts catalogue but am sure that the 6 cylinder and the V8 are different air dams both upper and lower.
