rad level

My rad stays down about five inches from the top no matter how many times I fill it. It seems to either leak by the cap and down the side of the rad, or out around the thermostat housing. The thermostat is new with the gasket. The cap is a 13 lb. and is old. Once it reaches this level it stops leaking but it is just barely at the top rad hose. Is the cap faulty? It is the OEM required lbs. (88 150 351w). The temp. is staying at its normal spot.

I would replace the cap if its old...only a few bucks. If its leaking at the housing, seems it would be noticible, and your level would probably keep dropping farther than it does. I would also check that top hose(seeing the level stays about there) it may be rotted and coolant seeping out. If this all fails, then you probably have a leak somewhere around the top of your radiator.........later
