I've been poking around on Bob Is The Oil Guy's web site and found this Air Filter Test (http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/airfilter/airtest1.htm). Some interesting findings that reinforce paper over cotton & oil for filtration, but for air flow the cotton/oil wins out. So it'e either a clean intake or a open intake. The test was done on a Mazda Miata.
Good test but he hasn't tested any of the newer designs like the AFE Pro Guard 7 the K&N is always thew worst for letting dirt thru. On a Duramax site ;ast year they had an Independent lab that tests filters for a living called Testand Corp in RI test a lot of different filters and the AFE PG7 stopped dirt within 1/2 of 1% (0.50%) as well as a stock AC Delco paper filter. 0.50% is pretty much nothing dirt wise!
This is why we always reccomend AFE PG7 filters for all diesel applications.
