I was going to replace the valve, but it turned out to just need some cleaning and lube and it works fine. I did already buy one from O'Reilly's, it looked quite different but should function the same. It's housing was made out of plastic instead of metal. Was only $8.99 + Tax here in NC.
The 78 does have a vacume motor to control the coolant going to the heater core.On one end the vacume line hooks to the vacume motor on the other it hooks to the heater controls in the cab
Those heater hose valves don't seal very well which may be why the plumbing valve was installed. Make sure you clean out the air mixing valve inside the heater. They often get full of debris and do not operate properly.
I cleaned everything inside and out.I might just get a new 1/4 turn plumbing valve if the vacuum ones dont shut-off all the way.The valve thats on there doesnt close all the way.So I was either going back to stock vacuum valve or a new 1/4 turn shut-off valve. A 1/4 turn brass shut-off is cheaper. The vacuum valve runs $15.00 at auto parts stores around here.
