What is supposed to move the heater control valve that connects the hose(s) to the heater core? Should something be connected from the controller in the truck through the firewall to the heater control valve?
The only thing heater core's get is 2 hoses attached to it.
Sometime's I forget which forum i'm on.
Do you have a cable that runs to a valve on one of the heater hoses under the hood ?
It seems to me truck of that era had them.
I have a controller valve between 2 heater hoses in the engine compartment, it looks like some type of cable should connect to it which I assume is to one of the heater controls in the cab.
I see from one of my resto catalogs that the cables are available: temperature control $10 (68-72). The '67 model uses a different set of controls than the newer trucks.
No doubt someone broke it and it just needs replacing.
It may have broke or been removed when the valve got stuck. The old metal valves will freeze up when not used for a while. Check the valve for movement. If it's froze up, replace it as well.
There are reasonable replacement valves made of plastic at your local parts store. Don't know about the other guys, but I don't have an issue with plastic parts in the cooling system....plastic don't rust :-)
Yup, the metal one will get stiff, and then if you try to FORCE it with the cable, IT WILL KINK!! Then it's all junk.
The one in my '67 was metal and worked great. Did not much use it all summer....then when I tried this fall, it was STUCK . I then replaced it with a plastic one.
I glass beaded my valve when it seized up and it worked perfectly. I did it about 3 years ago and all it has now is a little surface rust. Now and then a little shot of wd40 keeps it turning smoothly.
