Is the door ajar light on too?
Usually the cause is one or both of the door ajar switches which are in the door latches. You can usually cure the problem by spraying lots of WD40 (only, not spray grease) into the door latches and opening and closing the doors lots of times. The WD40 cleans out the switches and they will probably work again.
Yea i had that same prob on my 2000 f-150. I called the ford place and they said the same thing bout sprayin WD-40 and i tried that. that didn't work. I took it to the ford place and they did the same thing and it worked for a sec then the problem started again. Took it back and they changed the door switch. That didn't even fix it. Took it to another ford dealership and they said the switch might be bad so they swapped it again. That still didn't fix the problem. I took it back again and they finally found the problem. It was a shorted out speaker wire in the passenger door. I would def. try the WD-40 first though. Hope ya fix the problem man.
This forum is great. Just had the above noted problem with the door ajar light, and the dome light. Sprayed about 3 seconds worth of WD in to the latch, closed the door twice, and problem fixed. We'll see if it rears its ugly head again. Thanks!
I had the dealer "clean" mine way back under warranty and it worked for maybe 6 months, cleaned it myself with lots of WD40 and slamming the doors half a dozen times and it has been good for a few years.
