Priming the fuel system

How to do it? I read a couple of old posts (welcome back search function!) that talked about removing fuse #9 and crank the engine a few times, wait 3 minutes, repeat...a lot. Is this how the factory would do it? I have replaced the fuel pump and had pulled out the fuel bowl for cleaning, so my system is pretty much empty. I was thinking along the lines of this:

Refill fuel bowl
Crank engine a few turns
Vent the system through the schrader valve - which will be moved to a higher point since I am installing a fuel pressure gauge.
Repeat as necessary

Would this work or are there better ways to do this?

you should be good just to fill the bowl and crank and rest just a few times. it may even fire the first crank time with the bowl filled. shouldn't have to crank for a terrible long time. it may run bad for a minute but not too bad.
