10-4. thanks, I was pulling a grade and engine was cool but the factory trans gage almost in the red then would drop and do the same again. When I got over the hill, it did not move for a while.
Yeah.. you need to get an aftermarket tranny gauge... if the factory gauge shows your too hot...it is too late. It's basically a dummy gauge Cold, Normal or Hot.
I actually think my tranny gauge is wired from the engine temp. and the engine temp the same. The tranny gauge will read high in the normal range after warming the truck on a cool night, and the engine temp has not moved. The truck did not move an inch. I have only had the truck a few weeks and am waiting to get into the dealer to have it checked. Meanwhile I have an edge attitude that will have a better look at the tranny temps once I install.
f18mech, Wingedpig I hear ya. I was thinking about the same thing. How can the tranny temp be hot if the truck hasn't moved.

Because Ford has programmed the gauge to show right in the middle of the normal range by the time the transmission has reached 50°F.
The gauge read closer to 190-200, if the upper limit of the normal range is 220.
this was before the truck even moved. The eng temp was all the way below the cold reading but the truck was very warm for the wife. I have measured the tranny temp with a infrared thermometer and after normal driving the tranny was 156 at its hottest point. I will see what the dealer says. May be awhile though seems to be a lack of mechs at ford.
