temp gage not working

temp gage not working

95 F150 5.0 liter temp gage is bottomed out and does not move, what is the problem?

A buddy of mine showed me a quick way to find out if it is the temp sensor or the gauge itself.

Take the wire off of the temp sender, and ground it somewhere on the engine( I used a nearby bolt on our 5.8) When you do this have someone inside the cab and see if the gauge moves. If it does, then it's probably the temp sender, if it doesn't, then it could be the gauge.

Here a pic of the sender location. It is not my pic, I just found it on the web. And it looks like it has the name of another forum member on it.
